Post-and-Beam Pavilion

Living fabulously beyond the walls of your home outdoors begins with a fabulous design and ends with meticulous workmanship!

Cheshire, CT. THIS CONNECTICUT FAMILY loved spending time together in the great outdoors, but they felt that their backyard space was a less-than-spectacular setting. Their simple deck didn’t have the amenities they needed for the activities they enjoyed doing together, and it was lacking in aesthetic appeal as well. Desiring a fully decked-out open-air area, they hired Michael Gotowala, principal designer and president of Preferred Properties Landscaping and Masonry.

Gotowala got to work building a custom post-and-beam pavilion.Norwegian Buff stone in a French pattern covers the floor and grounds the pavilion’s timber frame. The ceiling features several skylights to filter in plenty of light, and a ceiling fan mounted on the ceiling keeps the air flowing during the warm summer months.A focal point of the entire structure is the stunning stone fireplace by Preferred Properties. The wood-burning fireplace features a wood beam mantle, which complements the timber frame, and plenty of surrounding seating lets the family and their guest cozy up for great conversations in front of the fire.A step-down dining area includes a table for six right beside the Tuscan Chef pizza oven and pizza-making station—a favorite feature. The outdoor kitchen island, which is topped with Neptune Sands leathered granite, is outfitted with custom Danver cabinetry, a DCS by Fisher & Paykel grill, a Summit refrigerator, and an Alfresco power burner—everything they need to make fresh fare in the fresh air.
